The PrintShop and PrintMaster programs on the IBM-PC are
very popular and useful programs. The PSTOOLS II program is
a collection of utilities designed to enhance these programs.
Version 0.00 includes three functions.
1) Print a listing of the icons contained in a library.
2) Display icons on the screen so that they may be viewed or
captured with a screen capture program.
3) Convert PrintShop format pictures to PrintMaster or convert
PrintMaster format pictures to PrintShop.
PSTOOLS II requires an IBM PC/XT/AT/PS2 or compatible computer
and an EGA, CGA, VGA or Hercules graphics adapter. The program
will not work with an MDA.
The following files are required to setup PSTOOLS II
SYNFONTS.COM
CGARUN
EGARUN
HGARUN
PS2.EXE
ASYN.EXE
SETUP.EXE
You must run the setup program before you can run PSTOOLS II. The
setup program will set up PSTOOLS II to work with the graphics
adapter in your computer. On a system with a hard disk the setup
program may be run on any drive. On a system with only two floppy
drives the setup program can be on either drive as long as the
disk in drive A: is a system disk. On systems with only one drive
you must copy the PSTOOLS II files to a system disk before
running the setup program. The setup program will not need to be
run again unless you change display adapters.
After PSTOOLS II has been set up these files are required to run
the program.
SYNFONTS.COM
SYNRUN.COM
ASYN.EXE
PS2.EXE
The program may be run from any drive and in any directory as
long as all the files listed above are together in the same
directory. To run PSTOOLS II type PS2.
To understand this program you must know a little about
PrintShop and PrintMaster files. PrintShop program stores picture
information in two files. One file contains the actual pictures
and will have a DAT extension, the other file will contain
the names of the pictures and will have a NAM extension. The
pictures that come with the PrintShop program are contained
infiles ICONS.DAT and ICONS.NAM If you have the graphics
library disk #1 the icons are stored in files named GRLIB1.DAT
and GRLIB1.NAM. If you have the PrintShop Companion the icons are
stored in files named GRPSC.DAT and GRPSC.NAM. If you
have created your own icons they will be stored in files named
GRDATA.DAT and GRDATA.NAM. PrintMaster stores picture file
information in the same two files except that they use different
file formats and the extension SHP for picture files and SDR for
name files. The pictures that come with the PrintMaster program
are contained in files slib.shp and slib.sdr.
To use the PSTOOLS II program place the disk containing the
desired PrintShop or PrintMaster files in a drive. Now run the
PSTOOLS II program as described above. The program is menu
driven. The main menu headings are displayed across the top of
the screen. Use the left and right arrow keys to select the main
heading. As each main heading is selected a menu listing commands
for that heading will pop down. Use the up and down arrow keys to
select the desired command. To execute the command press the
ENTER key.
When converting between PrintShop and PrintMaster format remember
to use the extension DAT when specifying the PrintShop file name
and the extension SHP when specifying the PrintMaster file name.
The program has been tested with the EPSON JX-80 printer.
